SOME CURRENT RIGHTS AS A VICTIM

As a victim of a crime, Wisconsin Law provides you with the following rights:

  • apply for victim of crime compensation
  • receive written information from law enforcement within 24 hours of alleged crime and offender
  • be informed of your rights and how to exercise them
  • contact information in regards to the offender in custody
  • speak with the prosecutor
  • attend court proceedings
  • be contacted about the right to make a statement at the disposition and/or sentencing
  • have the impact of the crime included in a pre-sentencing investigation
  • be notified if a prisoner is released
